Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made the announcement on September 19, 2023, saying that Canadian intelligence had identified the link between Nijjar's death and Indian agents. He did not provide any further details, but said that the investigation was ongoing.

The Indian government has denied any involvement in Nijjar's murder, calling the allegations "baseless" and "outrageous."

Nijjar was a prominent Sikh leader and activist who was a vocal supporter of the Khalistan movement, which seeks to create an independent Sikh state in India. He was designated as a terrorist by the Indian government in 2018.

Nijjar was shot and killed outside a Sikh temple in Surrey, British Columbia, on June 18, 2023. Two unidentified gunmen approached Nijjar as he was getting into his car and fired multiple shots at him. Nijjar was pronounced dead at the scene.

The assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar has strained relations between India and Canada. The Indian government has demanded that Canada take action against those responsible for Nijjar's murder, while Canada has denied any involvement and has said that it is committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice.

The investigation into Nijjar's murder is ongoing and it is unclear when it will be completed. However, the fact that the Canadian government is investigating allegations of Indian involvement is significant. If the allegations are proven true, it could have a major impact on relations between the two countries.
